Grande
Dame
(1998)
Grande Dame evolved from finding an
ancient jasmine creeper grown onto a wall trellis. The steel trellis provided
the structure for the figure, with additional willow woven into the mesh to
create the detail.
Grande Dame was made during a one week residency at The National Trust property,
Hill of Tarvit, in Fife, Scotland. As part of the residency, students from
local schools were invited to participate in workshops to make environmental
artworks in the form of large scale sculptures.
Commissioned
by The National Trust of Scotland and Fife Council Education Department.
Constructed from steel, willow and jasmine creeper.
